Who are you?

Dev Sangha, Founder and CEO of Learnisa.

What do you do?

Learnisa is an intelligent platform that makes personalised recommendations of online courses. By intelligently profiling a learner, Learnisa conducts a smart matching process to recommend the most suitable courses to learners.

Whether you’re taking an online course to upskill for your career, for university credit or out of pure interest in a subject, Learnisa can help you find your ideal course(s).

We were part of cohort 8 of the UCL EDUCATE programme.

What educational challenge are you trying to meet?

Online courses provide learning and upskilling opportunities to anyone, anywhere, at any time. However, the market has become saturated with more than 12,000 courses from  over 900 different institutions. Our research suggests that two in every three learners are not convinced whether their choice of online course is suitable for them. This is because the search for such courses is a fragmented and non-personalised experience, which in turn is a major contributor to incredibly high dropout rates, often reaching 90%.

By providing personalised recommendations through a smart matching system, Learnisa is aiming to help millions of online learners feel more confident in their decision to invest in themselves and, in turn, to make learning effective for everyone, everywhere, every time.

What impact did the EDUCATE programme have on your product and company?

We applied to EDUCATE as a means to evolve Learnisa into a research-backed proposition and platform for learners. The programme has instilled in us the importance of having a research-based philosophy which can be applied to almost every aspect of a business. We have since applied these principles in product development and marketing research.

Equally important is the supportive environment that EDUCATE offers. The programme boasts an extensive network, spanning from the investment to legal industries. The EDUCATE team have played a significant role in aiding the development of Learnisa, not just as a product but as a viable business.

What impact has achieving an EdWard had on you personally, and on your company or product?

We were delighted to receive the Evidence-Aware EdWard. The EdWard has provided a credible foundation not just to our product, but also to our team. As we are an early stage startup, we will be showcasing our EdWard to potential investors, partners and other future stakeholders, demonstrating Learnisa as a young but trusted brand within the EdTech space.

What advice would you give to prospective EDUCATE participants?

Engage. The more you engage with the programme, the EDUCATE team and the cohort, the more rewarding your experience will be. EDUCATE is a community – we all have a passion for education and are all driven to solve educational challenges. Learn from others and inspire others – because that is what defines education.
