Zara Ransley, co-founder of MyPocketSkill, discusses the company’s recent success as finalists of the Tech Crunch Europa Awards.
We were absolutely thrilled last month to discover that we are finalists for Tech Crunch’s Europa Awards. The Awards are highly regarded in the startup circuit and celebrate the most ambitious and innovative tech companies from all across Europe. Former winners include now household names, such as Spotify, Lovefilm and GoCardless.
MyPocketSkill is a hybrid Edtech/Fintech company and in this instance has been selected for the category of Hottest EdTech Startup, because of our focus on building financial capability for Gen Z’s.
MyPocketSkill connects young people, who want to earn pocket money and acquire skills, with pocket-money earning tasks. It replaces the need for them to trawl the high-street or place ads in the newsagent’s window and it democratises opportunities; our ethos is that opportunities should relate to what you know rather than who you know.
We are also proud of our journey through UCL’s EDUCATE accelerator programme, where we have demonstrated the effectiveness of our digital solution and earned an Evidence-Aware EdWard, the programme’s quality mark. There’s significant evidence pointing towards young people becoming more financially capable through the experience of earning, rather than been given pocket money, which is what our digital solution provides. Importantly, we also widen their pool of opportunities.
The Europa Awards are the premier awards for Europe’s hottest tech startups celebrating the most ambitious and innovative tech companies across 20 categories. They concentrate on the newest companies on the scene and also bring together the mid and late stage technology startups, as well as leading investors and media in the EMEA region.
MyPocketSkill co-founder, Matthew Harker, and I look forward to attending the awards ceremony tomorrow night!
