EDUCATE is a UCL led collaborative partnership, match-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, with Nesta, F6S and the British Educational Suppliers’ Association. It uniquely brings together EdTech SMEs and start-ups with researcher entrepreneurs, and educators, in a working collaboration founded on learning science and world-class research. Our ambition is better, evidence-informed EdTech products enabling better digitally enhanced education.

EDUCATE aims to act as the catalyst in the development of evidence based EdTech products and services. Our comprehensive and rigorous training programme is designed to help SMEs and start-ups to use research evidence to evaluate and improve their products, and researcher entrepreneurs to commercialise their work. Our goal is for Researchers, EdTechs, teachers and learners to work together to deliver better EdTech products. By working collaboratively to improve the quality of EdTech products and services, and through engaging with users as part of the design process, EDUCATE aims to stimulate demand for more and better EdTech.

Officially starting on 1 January 2017, EDUCATE opened the doors of its physical and digital working spaces to the first London-based EdTech and researcher entrepreneur programme participants in June 2017. We launch four new cohorts a year with 55 participants supported in 2017, 125 in 2018 and 65 in 2019. Through the lifetime of the ERDF funding, which runs to January 2020, EDUCATE aims to work with and proactively assist 245 businesses and research entrepreneurs.
